Waternish Wildlife Alliance

Waternish is a small peninsula on the northwest of the Isle of Skye. It is a place rich in both flora and fauna, where habitats of the sea, land and air meet. The community of Waternish came together in 2025 to form the Waternish Wildlife Alliance, with the common goal to protect and sustain Waternish’s cherished biodiversity and habitats. We try to achieve this in a variety of ways, such as direct action, discussions with policymakers, citizen science projects, and informal events to get more members of the public invested in helping nature.

Waternish has an extensive coastline, with Lochbay and its islands to the west, and Loch Snizort and the Ascrib islands to the east. Waternish Wildlife Alliance is committed to protecting, sustaining, and enhancing these unique marine habitats and all the biodiversity they support. We are privileged to have a myriad of marine species such as sea eagles, puffins, maerl, minke whale and common seals to name only a few.
