Friends of Loch Etive (FoLE) is a registered Scottish charity (number SC043986) and was set up in 2014 to protect the wildlife and environment of Loch Etive and the surrounding area for the benefit of the Etive community and visitors to the loch.

FoLE has over three hundred members, made up of a mixture of those living near Loch Etive and the many regular visitors to Etive.

FoLE’s trustees and members cherish the natural beauty and character of Loch Etive and set out to promote and encourage not only the conservation of the loch and its wildlife, to keep Loch Etive as a special place to live near and visit, but also its sensitive management in order to provide truly sustainable employment and other opportunities for the local community.

Conservation and wildlife protection of Loch Etive and the surrounding area – specifically FoLE believes that Loch Etive as a whole should now be designated as a Marine Protected Area under Scottish law.

Tourism, visitors and employment – FoLE believes that sustainable tourism, which does not harm the loch, should be encouraged to ensure the long-term future of the Etive community.

Managing the Loch sustainably – specifically, FoLE will seek to protect the public right to navigate, fish and enjoy the entire surface of the loch for recreation including swimming, kayaking, diving and boating.

For FoLE which way to go is very clear – Loch Etive must be protected and managed extremely sensitively, to maximise the truly sustainable opportunities for the Etive community, while protecting the landscape, wildlife and environment of Loch Etive into the future.
